This new KB article is quite interesting. Even more so that no-one picked up on this capability before....

Anyway, just one question. Why does the article say to disable forward VM to email for performance reasons? Surely the task of doing this cannot be so resource intensive that it would interfere with this call recording scenario but not interfere with normal VM to email scenarios????

Or is ithe limitation purely related to the potential length of the message? If so, perhaps the VM to email function could be run at a lower priority to prevent interference with other Quadro processes??

After asking around, I found that the reason for that is the limitation on the voice mail length. Typically the real voice mail length is not big: something about 0.5-3 minutes. But the recorded calls are usually quite long and may reach 20-30 minutes.
Sending large VM to email eats a lot of resources from Quadro (not the CPU, but the memory). Thats why in the latest software versions of Quadro, to prevent instability, the length of VM sent to email is limited by 3 minutes. Thus for the call recording it is recommended to switch VM to email option off.
I agree this is not very clear. I'll correct the article, so the reason will be more understandable.

Best regards,
David

OK, so if we were only expecting short-ish calls and only from 1 or maybe 2 extensions, would this still be a problem?

The whole call recording function is really only useful if there is an easy way (such as VM) to get the recording archived for later reference.

I also seem to recall someone saying that call recording (and archiving?) might have been a possible feature for v5 ?????

The recording is possible on the M32 platform as a record to profile ( conferencing to a voice mail box )

Just select RECORD on the telephone and it will initiate the conference to the profile vm box. you will have a silence period then the conversation will start recording.

If you expect only short calls (up to 3 min), you can switch ON the VM to email option - no problem.
BTW, why you need vm to email to archive the recordings? You can acrchive a lot of those on the Quadro itself using relatively big (4 GB) USB stick.

Not sure who was that.. But there are some plans, but pretty vague yet.

I want to move the files off the Quadro and into a CRM system for call quality monitoring. May do this through 3PCC but haven't got that far yet. This would allow logging of the calls and attaching the recorded conversation to the call record for later analysis.

One small addition, lansmart: if you are going to switch the vm to email option for recordings, please make sure you run version 4.1.52 or higher; otherwise the system may reboot itself from time to time :)
