A bit back, I recommended a Quadro to a guy I met online (actually he found me) - and he managed to dig up a really good price on a 2x - but the shop makes it sound like you only get to use 2 analog lines on the box and would have to buy a 6 ip user license to attach IP phones which doesn't make much sense to me - so I'm wondering.. is there even such a thing as a Quadro 2x without the 8 IP user license?

Stephan, some years ago there were different flavours of Quado2x, that were without IPSEC or IP-Lines support, so a special keys were needed to activate that features. Probabaly the shop mentioned by you is selling that kind flavour of 2x's, that's why the prices are low for them. Currently we do not produce such 2x's. If you'll check the SW version of that Quadro2x, I'll tell you if it is possible, that the 2x will have no embedded license for 8 IP-Lines, or not.

So I take it it wouldn't be possible to upgrade such a device to a recent firmware where the 8 user license is included?

Correct. To have an IP-Lines on such Quadro2xs you need to buy and activate a license or you should change the flavour on that Quadro by special SW image, that also costs money. After changing the flavour by special SW image the Quadro will become to a regular one, with default 8 IP-Lines, etc.
