Apologies for my many questions...this is all quite new for me, I hope to be a quick learner. I did search both documentation and manuals before posting, but I'm still lost on this one.

Why would I want to register extensions at xxxxx@sip.epygi.com? What does that do for me....is the Epygi server only a "directory" for such extensions, or would VoIP traffic actually get routed through epgyi servers?

Can people not rach me directly via the WAN IP address or DDNS name of my Quadro instead of going through sip.epygi.com? What about the Auto-attendant extension...why xxxxx@sip.epygi.com.

Hi, this place is especially created for questions, so no need for apologises :)

Let me explain first what is a Epygi SIP Server (sip.epygi.com). Epygi SIP Server is a free SIP (not ITSP) server, on which is all the Quadro extensions are registered by default. It's not just a "directory", but a real SIP server. In other words, we provide free SIP accounts to all Quadro owners, which are configured on every Quadro's extensions and are getting registered once the Quadro is configured at user's place. The server was established for Quadro users to give them an opportunity to make SIP calls between Quadros without any initial setup and it's not a mandatory option. There is also a 899 "Epygi Testline" on sip.epygi.com, that can be called from your Quadro right after you've installed your unit, to make sure that it is possible to make SIP calls from your Quadro.

Of course, you can and you are free to reach the Quadro by its WAN IP, or you can have an own SIP server for your Quadro network and register all your Quadro extensions to that server, or you can buy an account from ITSP to be able to make IP-PSTN calls - it's all up to you, up to your needs. Actually many our customers are using Epygi SIP Server with pleasure, as not every user willing (and able) to install and run own SIP server. They usually buy one or two ITSP accounts, register them on Auto Attendant or on one extension, share it with other extensions using Call Routing (for this you need to sonfigure ITSP account via "VoIP carrier wizard") and use sip.epygi.com for rest SIP calls between other Quadros. Other users create own network of Quadros, where the calls are orginized directly from one unit to other by their WAN IPs, again by using Quadro Call Routing capabilities. We even have a description of such setups in our WEB, under Channel Portal Login. You'll find there many useful documents describing Quadro installation, network setup, diagnostics, configuring and using IP-Phones, etc.

I forgot to mention, that you can use WAN IP for direct SIP calls only in that case if the Quadro's WAN IP is a static IP. In case if it is dynamic, you'll need to change the IP on the routing all the time. Here is for using SIP server :)

Hi Aram,

Thanks for your thorough explanation.

The only routing table I saw on the Quadro that requires actual IP addresses is the IP routing under System, I was assuming that is used for routing traffic between WAN and LAN side or tunnels and LAN side.

But if the Quadro itself acts as a SIP server on the WAN side, why can that not work with dynamic IP if I am using DDNS?

Oops, sorry, I mixed that with SIP Tunnel service, where the Master device always need to have Static IP. Of course you can use routing rules configured with DDNS names for direct calling when Quadro WAN IPs are dynamic.
