Hi
I was wondering if it is possible to use the Nokia N95 sip account to log onto, thru a local wireless access point, a 2x Quadro as an extension?
Thanks for your help.

Yes, it's possible. You can register you N95 as a LAN IP-Phone or Remote Extension of Quadro.

On your Nokia, put the following settings:

Profile Name: Epygi
Service profile: IETF
Public User Name: QuadroSIPUserName@QuadroLanOrWanIP (this depends whether ext is local or remote)
Compresion: No
Registration: Always On
Use Security: No
Registrar Server: QuadroLanOrWanIP
Realm: QuadroHostName.QuadroDomainName
User Name: QuadroSIPUserName
Password: SipUserPassword (should not be empty)
Transport Type: UDP
Port: QuadroSipPort (5060 by default)

About configuration on Quadro readManuals and Online Help.

I have tried you setting with my Quadro 16. But, the registration still failed. You only mention the setting of the "Registrar Server" setting, do I need to configure the "Proxy Server"?

You can put the same settings under "Proxy Server", but you can leave it blank as well. Have you configured the Quadro correctly ? Please check the username/password first on both Quadro and phone settings.

Dogcom, have you succeddedwith using this configuration ?

Hi Aramk
Sorry for my late reply.
No this did not work as an extension. I took a dump from netcapture and can see the N95 inquiry and the 2x reply. I then get no answer from the N95 to the 2x's ping. The quadro then gives a port unreachable reply and then gives a" status: 420 bad extension reply" and the N95 reports registration failed.
I am going to try another wireless access point over the weekend and see how that goes.
I will keep you posted as to my progress.
Thanks for your reply.
Kind regards
Mike

Hi there mike,

Try DMZing the N95, in the past I have found D-Link wireless routers seem to be less than desirable when you want something to wirelessly be registered to a Sip Server such as the Epygi...

I have used my PDA and a DI624+ it was a very finicky set up....

I used NCH Swift's Voip Soft Phone for my PDA - Express Talk it worked ok but due to problems with the Wireless Router and my PDA it didnt run all that well....

http://www.nch.com.au/talk/index.html

I am not condoning their software... nor do I have a vested interest in it...

It was just some software I tried that didnt work all that well with my PDA telephone...

Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin
I'll give you my setup. I have a netgear dg834g set up as a passthru or bridge to a quadro 2x. The quadro does all logging on and the wireless is deactivated on the netgear. The netgear only feeds the quadro and there is nothing else connected to the netgear. The quadro then feeds from its lan into a CetrecomFH716SW 16 port hub (old and stupid as I like them lol). The dhcp is assigned by the quadro to 4 x computers (networked with 1 as an extn off the quadro), 4 x ip phones (aastra 480i, aastra 9133i, snom 320, snom 300), 1 x fax (fsx port), and 1 x old intellinet IEW1100 11meg wirless access point.
At the moment I cannot talk to the intellinet (the packaged sotfware is damaged and i cant reload the old program), but internet access thru the N95 on the wireless lan is possible. I'll trial a netgear dg834 modem this weekend (set up as passthru again), and replace the intellinet with the netgear dg834g and active the wireless thru that.
I'll let you know as it unfurls around me lol.
Cheers
Mike

Dogcom, please check the "Realm" field's value. It seems that it isn't configured correctly.

Hi Aramk
I have tried the following;
172.20.0.1 (quadro ip)
dogsquadro (my system name)
epygi-config.com
I really suspect my wireless at the moment. I'll change it and keep you posted.

Hi Aramk,
Just to let you know that I now have it working. There are some interesting default settings in the N95 itself that were causing problems.
Thankyou for your help and input.
Kind regards
Mike

Hello there,
Have you set the epygi up in your "internet telephone" settings as "default" on the nokia?
Then i found an option on the N95 that auto sent an sms of "call back later" that had to be deactivated in the N95. I also had to make the quadro extn numbers 3 digit, as the default speed dial on the N95 was 00-99.
It was real fun getting it to work, but eventually I got it lol!!:D
Hope this helps!
Cheers and Merry Christmas.:)
Kind regards
Mike

I know this thread is old but I have a new e71 so
Mike, are you able to provide all the settings you used that worked?

Hi threebit, I have Nokia E61i's configured, they also register as remote ext & call over 3G, sometimes quality is poor, but it is still early days using the Nokia SIP clients for mobile remote ext's.
SIP settings:Profile name: XXXX
Service Profile: IETF
Default access point: whatever your AP is defined as in wireless config select it
Public user name: xx@192.168.1.1 (ext@yourquadroip)
Use compression: No
Registration: When needed or Always on depends on whether you are in & out of the coverage area
Use Security: No
Proxy server:
Proxy server address: 192.168.1.1 (yourquadroip)
Realm: quadroname.epygi-config.com (new firmware .loc old firmware)
User name: xxx (your extension)
Password: XXXXX (your password)
Allow Loose routing: Yes
Transport type: UDP
Port: 5060

Registrar Server:
Registrar server address: 192.168.1.1 (yourquadroip)
Realm: quadroname.epygi-config.com (new firmware .loc old firmware)
User name: xxx (your extension)
Password: XXXXX (your password)
Transport type: UDP
Port: 5060

Those are the settings, make sure you set up the Internet Telephone settings as well, using your SIP settings. I hope this helps. cheers Brad

I have a nokia N95 and am trying to connect to a remote extension on quadro through EDGE with an access point from our operator which is VODAFONE. Should that be a problem ?

It truly depends on the latency over your provider to the telephone system.

If the latency is consitent and under 300ms then that should be adequate for testing VoIP from your N95. If you get 10 - 150ms then that is acceptible for normal communication providing it is constant.

The problem is that I can't even register. I always get "Not Registered" on the N95.
My settings are:

Profile name: Epygi
Service type: IETF
Access point: Si.mobil internet (our mobile operator access point for internet)
Public user name: MyRemoteExtUserName@EpygiWanIP
Use compression: NO
Registration: Always
Use security: NO

Proxy server: BLANK (have also tryed with the same settings as for registrar server)

Registrar server:
Address: QuadroWanIP
Domain: quadro.epygi-config.com
username: MyRemoteExtUsername
Password: MyRemoteExtPassword
Transfer type: UDP
Port: 5060

On quadro I have configured remote extension and am using it's username and password.

I still can't get the n95 to register

To verify your settings on the Epygi, use a softphone - like xlite with the remote settings of the extnsion of the Epygi and see if you are able to remove the Epygi settings 100%.

Then I would try the firewall settings inside the telephone and make sure that your carrier isnt blocking your voip ports ( sip and rtp )

Settings on Epygi are surely OK. Used QCM to connect as a remote extension on quadro - SUCCESS. I think that settings on quadro are ok.

Tested on two N95 8GB:
1) trying to configure SIP settings in: tools-settings-connections-sip configuration, both telephones failed to connect

2.) on one phone,a software FRING was used to connect to quadro as a remote extension - SUCCESS

I find it strange that with FRING the registration worked, but with SIP settings on a telephone, it doesn't work.

On both telephones, the settings as described above are used to configure a sip account.

Hi just a thought I didn't see your settings for the quadro realm. Please check that setting. if it is missing or wrong you won't register. Brad

Yes, missing realm setting is the most often mistake people do when trying to register the mobile client on a Quadro.
Please try to use the hostname of the Quadro as Realm (just "quadro" in your case), and configure Proxy with same values as Registrar.

Best regards,
David

You were right. I thought that realm isn't relevant information here, but I guess it is. After entering the correct realm, the telephone successfuly registered to quadro.

Now that I am registered on a SIP account over EDGE, after selecting a contact or entering a number on n95, I have a choice of doing a " SIPcall". I always get a message:"No WLANs found to make a SIP call".

If I go to: tools->settings->connections->Internet tel., it says that I am connected to a service over Si.mobil internet (the access point for EDGE).

So, the SIP registration worked using EDGE, but is there any other settings on n95 needed to be configured to make a SIP call using EDGE?

This looks either as a bug on Nokia (force to use WiFi for SIP), or just a wrong setting...
We use the SIP client via WiFi, so never met with this problem..
