Transcode g729 voicemail to ulaw

Hi,

I think I saw in some old documentation that the Quadro was able to transcode voicemail stored as g729 to ulaw codec before it is emailed to the extension user.

That would be a very useful feature, so I can't see why it has been removed - did it use too much CPU to do the transcoding?

The transcoding from G729 to ulaw is not removed. In the current SW versionsthisis done just automatically

Yep, just the option in the "Voice Mail Settings" GUI is removed (we have too much options there anywaysmileys/smiley1.gif). Now the transcoding to PCMU is done always. Edited by: davrays

When a user clicks on the "Play Voice Mail" link in their voice mailbox will the file be ulaw or g729? I am unable to play messages from here if the Quadro is encoding with g729.

Good point :) This "Play Voice Mail" is a kind of headache for us. Actually now it downloads the message as it is - no transcoding is done there (in any version of Quadro SW). So transcoding works only for e-mail.


Several times we considered implementing the transcoding there, but it turns to be not easy and the effort is not justified (we have not many requests concerning this, while good implementation will either consume too much power from the CPU, or too much development resources are needed :).

So, when I download a voicemail from my mailbox (i.e not emailed), and WMP says codec error because the AT&T g729A codec isn't installed on my PC, how am I supposed to be able to listen to the message? Where do I get this codec from?


I guess I could save all VM's as uLaw but that's just going to decrease the available message time.


I also thought about using iLBC, but will I have the same issue playing messages from the web interface on my PC? i.e. where do I get an iLBC codec from?

Try http://www.free-codecs.com/, or another web-sites suggesting free-codecs.
