We have started to deploy Linksys SPA-941 IP-Phones to our customer,
for the benefit of providing "wi-fi" desktop phones (SPA range IP-Phone
+ a Linksys WBP54G wi-fi dongle), as this bypasses the need of adding
network cables to the existing premises.

Now the Quadro does support the SPA-841 (SPA-941's predecessor), is any
plan in the near future to support SPA-941/942 too? Whilst going wi-fi
does cut out the cabling cost for customers, I'd hate to manually
configure all the SPA-941 handsets. The automatic configuration of
supported IP-Phones from the Quadro is something too good to give up! smileys/smiley4.gif

We have plans for supporting SPA-941 model, but it is not finally decided yet.

For the auto-configuraiton purposes you can try to use the Sipura 841 from drop-down list. We cannot check it as the phone is not on our testing lab yet. But I do not expect any major differences for the auto-configuration files for those models. Please let me know if SPA-841 auto configuration will work for you.

I tried the SPA-841 from the drop-down list, however it didn't seem to
automatically configure our SPA-941 handset. Can you find out from
Linksys/Sipura whether there's much config changes from 841 to 941?

Hopefully you will support auto-config for this handset soon.

Thanks for the checking.

We have investigated theLinksys documentation, and the difference is only the name of the defalutconfiguration file (but not the content). But our tftp server is read onlydue to security reasons. So it is not currently possible to change the name of generated configuration file. I will let you know if there will be final decision on Linksys phone models support.

We have also started to deploy SPA941 phones

We use the manuel configuration for the moment. The main problem is the xfer button on the phone which does not work. (transfer).

Just curious.

Is the quality of the call OK with these WIFI phones considering other WIFI traffic?

We have been deploying the IP-Phones on a separate LAN to the existing
data network, so the only wi-fi traffic are voice traffic. Seems to be
working well so far. (Of course, adding extra APs as we add more wi-fi
phones)

Could you send me the manual configuration?

Manual configuration requires you to go to the Quadro and choose the Other option and put in a user/pass. Then you go to the SPA94x admin gui of the phone to enter ext 1 and/or ext 2 depending on which model you have, to enter the corresponding user/pass. I have not gotten the transfer button to work either. Has anyone gotten on the phone with Linksys to see if there are other configs to make this work? Or does this require Epygi to release a new firmware to support SPA94x?

For support of auto-configuration, for sure the new release should be done by Epygi. For the transfer issue - depends on what is causing the problem.

transfer issue isconfigured by enabling blind xfer in the SPA94x gui.

Any updates on the inclusion of the Linksys phones in the new firmware.

The ability to have all the program keys on the Linksys phones work straight out of the box so to speak will make life much easier.

They are such a nice phone and would compliment the epygi system nicely.Edited by: paulfam99

Just wanted to add my vote for support linksys spa9xx phones. We have the spa962

These phones are actually quite easy to make work. you just setup them up in the Quadro as Sipura841 and enter the MAC address as normal.

Then you then need to go to the Provisioning tab on the phone and set the Profile Rule to /spa841.cfg and then reboot the phone, that is it. The phone will then be auto-provisioned from the Quadro. This will work for any linksys model.

Thanks for the provided workaround. Hopefully this will not harm the phones autoprovisioned by Quadro. I doubt that certine fetaures will not work on the phone with spa841 config loaded, as there are some differences between these model for sure. This is not tested in Epygi lab, so we can't guarantee anything.

Update/anounce: starting from the upcoming (most probably next week) 5.0.16 release the Linksys SPA941, SPA942, SPA921, SPA922 models are in the "Tested IP Phones" list. That means the autoconfiguration of those phones is supported.

Best regards,
DVR

That is great news, But not the SPA962? That would be a pity, especially since it is almost exactly the same as the others except with a color screen, and is very popular/common. Please include support in the next release if it isnt in this one.

SPA962 may be the same internally, but may be not...
We don't have that particular phone tested, so cannot guarantee anything, thus cannot add that to the "tested phones list".
Hopefully we will get it tested soon, so can add that in one of the next releases (but definitely not to the next).

Best regards,
David

The config if the phones is almost exactly the same.. the main difference is that the 962 has two more lines and configuration options for the SPA932 - and in the the latest firmware (6.1.3) some of the options to using a line key as speeddial/busy lamp field/pickup button aren't in the phone tab but the SPA932 tab.

By the way I upgraded my phones over the week-end (to 6.1.3) and in RFC mode the new line key functionality works fine with the Quadro.. speeddial, blf and pickup combined work like a charm. Just set the extension to disabled and use the vid parameter to specify which of the phone's line should be used for the line key functionality.

Now if only the Quadro would offer LDAP access for the corporate directory, you could use the other major new function in the 6.1.3 firmware.

Can you post exactly what settings you used for the BLF functionality. I followed what was in the readme and it didnt work for me.

Suppose you use line1 as the regular line and want the line button2 as blf. Go to the admin page, phone tab, set server type to RFC3265_4235.

Then under Line Key2:
Set extension to disabled.
Set Share Call Appearance to shared.
SetExtended Function to:

fnc=sd+blf+cp;sub=extensionnumber@$PROXY;ext=exten sionnumber@$PROXY;vid=1

Replace "extensionnumber" with the extension you want to monitor.

Note that vid=1 means "use line1 to make the call, subscribe for blf and pick up the call". If you are using Line3 to register with your quadro instead, it would be vid=3.
You can also replace $PROXY with the ip address of your quadro, however this is not necessary since the way it is set up, it gets the IP address from the proxy field from the line identified by vid=.
