View Full Version : Quadro6L subnet mask not taking /32

Hi,

I just purchased a Quadro6L and upgraded to firmware 5.0.22. The configuration wizard does not permit the use of a /32 subnet mask (my ISP uses 255.255.255.232)

Anyway to enter the configuration without using the wizard?

Thanks.

I am not familiar with mask 255.255.255.232. If you look at http://www.subnet-calculator.com, you will see bo such mask there. And generally the 232 = binary 11101000, which cannot be a valid subnet mask...

Moreover, how that mask is connected with /32 ? /32 is the same as 255.255.255.255 actually, but not 255.255.255.232.

So please clarify what do you need.

Best regards,
David

P.S. BTW, I have an impression that your ITSP is using PPPoE. In that case please configure it using "PPPoE", not the "Ethernet" on the first page of Internet Configuration Wizard. Or if it has DHCP server, try to configure the system to get IP from DHCP.

David.

Thanks you for the reply.

The issue is that the configuration will only take a mas like 255.255.255.0 (/24) or 255.255.255.255 (/32) The service provider, BrightHouse in So Florida, implements a "check" when the modem comes online. If the "static" information on the router does not match the one provided by the ISP, a red light (instead of green) in lit on the modem.
A (/24) mask on the Quadro6L causes the BrightHouse modem to think that there is a configuration error. The Quadro6L works but not been able to enter 255.255.255.232 into the mask creates an apparent problem for the BrightHouse modem.

Thanks.

All I wanted to say above - the mask you are talking about (255.255.255.232) is invalid mask. No network equipment will let you enter such mask.

May it be that there is a typo and you mean the 255.255.255.252 mask?
Quadro 6L will allow you to enter any correct mask - 255.255.255.254, 255.255.255.252, 255.255.255.248, 255.255.255.240, 255.255.255.224, etc.

Just make sure you enter valid netmask. As I told above, the mask 255.255.255.232 is invalid.

It is not a typo but I belive we can learn to leave with the red light on the modem.

Thanks you very much.

No need to live with the red light on the modem. Just try to ask your service provider (Brightmask) to check their settings and correct if there are errors. They should not expect you to set invalid netmask...

But if you like red more than green, you can leave everything as it is now :)
