has anyone used the RTP Streaming Channels yet. The instructions are not descriptive enough for someone who has never used RTP Streaming before.

Where do I find these channels etc?

All we have is a channel name, port number and description....

In the 5.1.18 manual (if I recall correctly) there are some instructions for attaching RTP streams to the Epygi. You then can select those streams as hold music.

For how to do the RTP streams there was some mention of using VLC to stream RTP to the Epygi.

All in theory as I haven't tried it out yet.

The brief description of the channels is as follows. On Quadro you can configure the channel assigning the name and the port. Quadro listens the external G.711 RTP stream on that port and redirects it as a hold music to remote party in cases when "RTP channel" is selected in extension settings. Many channels can be configured and different extensions may use same or different channels.
As an external source of G.711 RTP stream can be used any third party application capable of that kind of streaming. VLC seems to have that capability but not sure if it works proberly in the latest release - in older releases it was broken. Epygi is going to publish next week the streamer application - EMS (Epygi Media Streamer), running on Windows PC. EMS is using as an input the MP3 files.

I downloaded the Media Streamer and thought that this looks too easy.

However, is there any documentation as I seem to not be able to stream the music as on hold music.

What port should I be streaming to? I would assume that the destination is the IP of the quadro?

HELP!!!!!! :)

Craig, if you look more carefully, you will definitely find a special doc published in Epygi support web Download section - that is called "EMS User's Guide" and contains all the information you need (the big delay in publishing the EMS was caused by the need to finalize that doc, so I really hope that the doc will find its readers now.. :))

In short the answers to you questions are:

However, is there any documentation as I seem to not be able to stream the music as on hold music.
Yes.

What port should I be streaming to?
To the port which you choose on the Quadro, when configuring an "RTP Streaming Channel".

I would assume that the destination is the IP of the quadro?
Yep, exactly.

David

I've followed the guide and I can't seem to get it to work :(

Eventhough the guide states that "The RTP stream should be present all the time, if not the extension with it configured as hold music would only send silence" I don't even hear silence, so it's not a streaming problem it's more like a Quadro problem... any ideas?

Well, so you what do you hear, if you "don't even hear silence"? :)

Did you configure your extension to play the hold music from the RTP Channel instead of File? What is set in the "Listen Hold Music" dropdown list on that extension?

Done all that and I too am not hearing anything. Is there a way to make sure that the media streamer is actually outputting a stream?

You didn't answer to my question - did you select the "Own_Music" in the "Listen Hold Music" dropdown box?

Of course you can see if the Media Streamer is sending the stream - run a network capture either on your PC (Ethereal/Wireshark), or on the Quadro itself (netcapture.cgi).

Hello !

Step 1

I couldn't before use MOH with my ITSP.

On extension :

- Send Hold Music to remote IP party selected,
- Own_Music selected,
- Personalized WAV file (CCITT format) uploaded.

On generalconfig.cgi :

- Force Hold Music selected.

Only silence. No MOH.

Step 2

With EMS, MOH now works.

Streamed MOH from MP3 file(s) with EMS works on my Quadro 4xi with 5.1.18.

Step 3

But what about internet radio ?

When i tried to insert an internet radio mp3 "file" in my playlist, EMS answers : No such file or media file of unsupported type.

Any idea ?

Narval, what you tell is strange, and though it is nice that it started working with EMS now, I don't really see a rewson why it could not work befer with settings you describe above.
If you could take the time and send me the logs (with developer logging enabled!!), containing such a call with hold, and without music (the case without EMS), I'll be interested in looking into that...

Regarding the internet radio - what do you mean saying "internet radio mp3 file"? Is that a MP3 file saved from a internet radio source, or something different?

Internet radio itself is not supported by EMS, and we have no specific plans for implementing that yet... We could wait until VLC will fix its numerious bugs related to RTP and PCMU/PCMA support, and then we could use that tool for streaming internet radio to Quadro..

Best regards,
David

Hello David !

Thanks for your answer.

I'll send you system logs (when i'll know how with PM !).

For step 3, i thought EMS was designed to broadcast not only mp3 file(s) but also an internet radio (i.e. France Inter http://mp3.live.tv-radio.com/franceinter/all/franceinterhautdebit.mp3) to the Quadro.

I have set this up and it works really well and it is pretty easy to setup. I would like to ask though if there is anyway that we can controll the volume?

I have noticed on some phones that the volume is turned up higher for voice calls and when the person then puts the call on hold the music is really loud

Hi guyes I really need this application too

but before that if I am not mistaken, is this means if you press hold in your set you will hear the music, if it is like that i really nead it.

TFISA, if the volume of streamed hold music is high, you need to decrese the volume of the MP3 file. You can do that using multiple programs. The "Mp3gain" tool is one of the best, and I believe you can download it for free. It normalizes the volume even without decoding the file - pretty fast.

abdulrhmanbm, the EMS is published now, so you can easily download that from the support portal. But regarding your question, I am not sure what you mean. If you press the hold button, the hold music will be played not to you, but to the person which is on hold, i.e. to your party.

Best regards,
David

Hi,
I have set up the EMS software on an XP machine, and configured the Epygi all fine, and must say it works extremely well!

However when I install this software on our server (running Server2008), after I add the MP3 file and RTP destination, as soon as i press 'start streaming', the status bar says 'failed to stream' and the program crashes.

I have tried installing and running as administrator, and also choosing compatibility mode, but it still crashes. It is not a problem to run on a virtual XP box on our server, but would like to know if this has worked for anyone else on server 08?

We didn't test the EMS on Windows 2008 server yet. Planning to do that soon...
